Brewers Lead the 2026 World Series 2–0 After Two One-Run Finishes

Two games, two one-run finishes and a 2–0 lead for Milwaukee. The opening weekend of the 2026 World Series has given Brewers and Rays fans plenty to talk about before the next first pitch. At I Heart Socks, we are keeping the game-night conversation close to what matters on the field, with team colors ready for another evening of baseball.

Game 1 began with Milwaukee on the front foot

The World Series opened at American Family Field on Friday, October 23. Milwaukee wasted little time scoring. Christian Yelich drove a triple to center in the bottom of the first, bringing home Jackson Chourio. William Contreras then singled to score Yelich, and the Brewers had a 2–0 lead before the second inning.

Tampa Bay cut that advantage in half in the fourth. Liam Hicks grounded out, allowing Jonathan Aranda to score and moving Junior Caminero to third. The Rays were back within one, and the game remained 2–1 through the sixth. An early burst had put Milwaukee ahead, but it had not removed the possibility of a Tampa Bay response.

A seventh-inning run changed the finish

In the bottom of the seventh, Chourio singled to right and Cooper Pratt scored. Milwaukee’s lead grew to 3–1. That run became especially important in the ninth, when Tampa Bay scored again on a Hicks groundout after a replay review altered the play’s outcome. The Rays were within one once more.

Milwaukee ultimately completed the 3–2 win. The Brewers finished with eight hits, Tampa Bay with seven, and neither side committed an error. The opener’s scoring was concentrated in four half-innings. That made each successful chance stand out, especially Milwaukee’s ability to add a run late enough to protect its early advantage.

Game 2 opened with a Tampa Bay rally

Saturday, October 24, brought a very different first inning. Chandler Simpson singled home Yandy Díaz to put the Rays in front. Caminero then singled to score Simpson. Hicks followed with a two-run homer, bringing Caminero home and giving Tampa Bay a 4–0 lead before Milwaukee’s lineup had taken a turn.

It was the response the Rays needed after losing the opener. Their first three scoring plays combined contact hitting with a home run, and the early margin offered a chance to even the series. The challenge was holding it. Milwaukee answered in the bottom half when Contreras singled home Chourio and Garrett Mitchell drove in Jake Bauers. The first inning ended with Tampa Bay leading 4–2.

Milwaukee brought the game back one run at a time

The Brewers closed further in the fourth. David Hamilton reached on a fielding error by Aranda, and Pratt scored to make it 4–3. Tampa Bay still led, but the four-run cushion had become a one-run game. The scoring then paused until Sal Frelick came to the plate in the sixth.

Frelick homered to center to tie the game 4–4. An inning later, Pratt lined a single to right and Brice Turang scored the go-ahead run. Milwaukee now led 5–4. Tampa Bay did not score again, leaving the Brewers with a comeback victory and their second straight World Series win.

What the first two games tell us

Across the two contests, Milwaukee has scored eight runs and Tampa Bay six. Each result has been decided by one run, despite the difference in how the games developed. The opener asked Milwaukee to protect a lead. The second asked it to recover from a four-run deficit. The Brewers succeeded in both situations.

Game 2 also produced 11 Milwaukee hits to Tampa Bay’s seven. The Brewers left 12 runners on base, while the Rays left six, and each team committed one error. Those totals add detail to the comeback. Milwaukee created repeated opportunities, even when an inning ended without another run. Tampa Bay’s entire scoring output arrived in the first, leaving its early advantage vulnerable as the night continued.

Game 3 moves the series to Tampa Bay

As of Sunday, October 25, Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven World Series 2–0. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at Tropicana Field, with an 8 p.m. Eastern start. That is 5 p.m. Pacific for fans watching from the West Coast. Milwaukee needs two more wins to take the title; Tampa Bay needs four.

For the next game night, keep the outfit as straightforward as the plan to watch. Choose your team colors, settle in and let a pair of socks carry the fan detail. I Heart Socks brings that everyday side of supporting a team into the picture, whether you are watching with friends or choosing a baseball gift. Two close games have created a clear series lead, and another first pitch is coming.
